CAMBRIDGE WINTER CONCERTS

Screen Shot 2017-12-10 at 6.10.40 PMJust a reminder that the Cambridge Winter Concert will feature Mrs. Lourenco’s music classes in grades K-4  for three performances. The grade 7 band, conducted by Mr. Tsang, will be performing at the December 20th evening performance. The two afternoon concerts begin at 1:00pm (doors open at 12:30pm), and the evening concert will begin at 6:00pm (doors open at 5:30pm). Due to our school size and gym capacity fireWinter-Concert regulations, there are specific instructions regarding tickets that were sent home with all students last week. In the Spring of 2018, students in grades 5-7 will be involved in a community performance (details will be shared in the new year). The senior leadership students will be collecting non perishable donations for the Surrey Food Bank at each performance. If you have not already donated, you are encouraged to bring an item when you attend a performance.

FRESHGRADE PARENT/GUARDIAN “CHECK IN” – WEEK 2

how_does_digital_portfolio_help_21st_century_studentsOver the past several months, your child’s learning has been captured, shared, and assessed through their FreshGrade portfolio. If you haven’t had a chance to view your child’s progress last week, we encourage you spent some quality time with your child(ren) this week to interact with their portfolio and have meaningful conversations regarding their learning. Classroom teachers may continue to post your child’s learning on different days throughout the week ahead. Learning is ongoing, so the purpose of this communication is a “check-in” to celebrate successes and to plan for the learning ahead. It is very important for parents/guardians to have a clear understanding of:

  • the progress your child is making,
  • areas requiring further development,
  • and ways you can support learning at home.Screen Shot 2017-12-10 at 6.26.42 PM

Research indicates that, “when parents are involved in talking about learning with their children, the children achieve more. The more parents are involved, the higher the student achievement levels.” (Ann Davies, 2001)

Please feel free to use the attached guide to show how parents can interact with their child’s portfolio in a meaningful way.

Parent – FreshGrade Interaction Guide

As always, please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns.

BUDDY THE ELF

Buddy has been busy in his first week at school and students have loved the challenge of finding out where he is from day to day and where he might show up. This week, Buddy will be watching closely for students who show the virtues of wisdom (making good judgements), self-control (the ability to govern ourselves), a positive attitude, hard work, and gratitude.
