CAMBRIDGE WINTER CONCERTS – THIS WEEK

Winter-ConcertJust a reminder that the Cambridge Winter Concert will feature Mrs. Lourenco’s music classes in grades K-4  for three performances THIS WEEK. The grade 7 band, conducted by Mr. Tsang, will be performing at the December 20th evening performance. The two afternoon concerts begin at 1:00pm (doors open at 12:30pm), and the evening concert will begin at 6:30pm (doors open at 6:00pm). Due to our school size and gym capacity fireregulations, there are specific instructions regarding tickets that were sent home with all students last week. In the Spring of 2018, students in grades 5-7 will be involved in a community performance (details will be shared in the new year). The senior leadership students will be collecting non perishable donations for the Surrey Food Bank at each performance. If you have not already donated, you are encouraged to bring an item when you attend a performance.

HOLIDAY CANDY TREES

A big THANK YOU to the PAC for organizing and supplying the waffle cones and icing for every student at Cambridge (all 717 of them) for our first annual, “Holiday Candy Tree” decorating activity. Throughout the day on Friday, students of all ages turned on their creative decorating skills and developed candy riddled waffle cones trees covered in icing. It was an activity thoroughly enjoyed by all.

“WHAT I AM GOOD AT” – A GRADE 4 STUDENT REFLECTION

It is with pleasure that we share this piece of person writing from Avneet J. who is in grade 4.  Forwarded by his teacher, it expresses an amazing amount of empathy and understanding for the diversity of learners that surround us all.

What I Am Good At

I like to spend time with younger children especially children with special needs. I like to watch the younger children play, speak and help them pronounce words. Younger children have a great imagination. My cousin has autism and I always help him when he is around me. He is four years old and is just starting to form sentences. I speak slowly so he can catch the words and understand me. I can watch his behaviour to people, T.V. shows and to music and know what he is thinking and wanting. I have noticed when children are not understood by someone, there is a deep sadness in their eyes. This makes me sad. I wish I could reach out to every sad child. Younger children tend to bond very well with me. When I see children smile, I feel happy. I have a younger brother and I like to watch him react to different situations. When I am older I would like to work with children maybe become a paediatrician or a family doctor. I hope I can support children in need as I grow older.
