WELCOME TO 2017!

screen-shot-2017-01-01-at-8-52-04-pmWelcome to 2017! Every New Year brings new challenges, new expectations, and new learning. As you and your families prepare to come back to school this week, I invite you to think about the power of positive thinking. Being a successful learner starts with a positive attitude. Positive thinking can motivate and inspire us to learn. Positive thinking can help make us happy and more resilient; when we possess a positive outlook towards life, we are better prepared to deal with problems and to handle challenging situations.

The benefits of positive thinking can be far reaching for children and their learning. Children with a positive attitude believe in themselves and approach tasks with more confidence and a can-do manner which helps lead them to success. Children who come to school with a positive attitude increase their social interactions. Research has proven that more cheerful, optimistic children, make friends more easily and have less social problems in school. Research also supports the premise that a positive outlook on life can strengthen our immune system. Helping children develop positive thinking behaviours and positive feelings can lessen stress and anxiety and, in turn, improve learning. Children who are more positive navigate their learning journeys with more passion, interest, and success.

So how do we begin to develop more positive thinking? Smile and take responsibility to change your thinking. Enjoy the small things in life, be proactive, stop complaining, laugh, be curious, and focus on the good.  For 2017, I wish you all a can-do, positive thinking year!

Happy New Year!

CAMBRIDGE PEACOCKS

Just the other day, when I came to do a bit of work at school to get ready for the new year, I found a few feathery friends waiting for me at the front doors.  I think our Cambridge peacocks have missed us.  Looking forward to seeing everyone back at school, Tuesday, January 3rd.
