CLASS ORGANIZATION

Since the end of last year, the enrolment of students at Cambridge has increased significantly. Late last week, we were informed that a new division is being added to our school and a portable will be moved on to our grounds towards the end of this upcoming week. Mr. Stemler will be joining the grade 7 team of Mrs. Lim and Ms. Minhas in the portables which will allow for continued collaboration and planning. Our new division, a grade 2 class, will move in to Mr. Stemler’s room and will be taught by Ms. McKillop who was recently placed at Cambridge.

As you can imagine, this has led to many meetings with staff this week to begin the task of moving students into classes. In May and June, staff worked collaboratively and thoughtfully to determine the best placement for your child, and now that we know a new classroom is being formed, we plan to have students placed in their new classrooms by Wednesday the 15th.

What do we ask of students and parents?

Please be patient and give students time to settle in. In almost all cases, students end up loving their teacher and the class they are in. Teachers have been very thoughtful at taking into consideration all the important criteria that create classes that will meet the learning needs of every students. Having said that, we will look at classes carefully to see if adjustments need to be made. Children need their parents to reassure them that everything will be OK. Parents, you have our assurance that we visit and spend time in every classroom as well as communicate frequently with teachers to ensure learning environments are the best they can be.

WELCOME BACK ASSEMBLY

Our first school-wide assembly brought Cambridge staff and students together to welcome the new school year and to share some important  messages and introductions.  Below is one of the videos we watched which was created last year to remind us about moving safely, responsibly, and respectfully in our hallways.  We invite you to view it with your child and discuss the important ideas.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

At our Friday morning assembly we also reviewed and discussed our Cambridge S.T.A.R. acronym: S is for Safe, T is for Thoughtful, A is for Accountable, and R is for Respectful.  We also shared the very creative video below produced last year by one of our very own Cambridge students.  Not only are our students STARs at school, we hope they are all STARs at home as well.  Enjoy!

We invite and challenge all Cambridge film makers to make their own movie which could be shared at our next assembly.
