UP-CYCLED JUNK ART CHALLENGE
Screen Shot 2016-05-08 at 8.51.34 AM

The video above demonstrates how natural it is for children to be curious and creative. It’s a great reminder for adults to provide the opportunities, then to get out of the way.

Here’s what you need to know about our upcoming challenge day:

Creation Dates: May 24th-25th

Display at Parent Tea: May 26th

To create JUNK ART, Students will use: Old Toys, Toy Parts, Craft Items, Construction Materials, Junk, White Glue, Glue Stick, Hot Glue, Wire, Elastic Bands, Twist Ties, etc.

NOT ALLOWED: TAPE and Structures that have been PRE-CREATED from building materials such as Lego and K’nex

Students can use the materials that they bring in as well as shared parts to create wall art or 3D art. Any size is acceptable.

Students will be asked to bring in materials on May 23rd.
Materials can be brought in intact and disassembled by students at school.

Classes can begin creating art pieces on the 24th and continue on the 25th. All pieces should be completed by the end of the day on May 25th.

We are giving students two days to finish their MASTERPIECES because not only does it take time for glue to dry, we also know that creativity takes time!

CREATIONS will be displayed at the PARENT TEA on May 26th.

Special thanks to Ms.Ineson, Ms. Steeves, Ms. Tinant, Ms. Bomford, Ms. Lim, and Ms. Vogstad for inspiration and organization!!!

HELMET SAFETY
We love to see students riding their bikes, scooters, and skateboard to school. We worry when we see them doing this without a helmet on. The watermelon and iPhone in this video are no match for the unforgiving pavement and neither your head and brain. Watch and discuss this video with your child. Most important, model the behaviour we wish to see in our children. Encourage your child to always wear a helmet if they are riding to school and be sure that if you are riding along, you wear a helmet as well. Oh, and by the way…DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!

CLASS PLACEMENT REQUESTS FOR 2016-17
Shortly, we will begin the VERY TENTATIVE process of organizing classes for the 2016-17 school year. If you would like to share information regarding your child that will assist us in making the most appropriate class placement for next year, please put this in writing and submit your letter to Mr. Vendramin by May 20. Requests may include a description of a preferred learning environment or details about your child’s academic, social, or emotional strengths and/or needs. It would not be appropriate to request a particular teacher by name.

Parent requests will be one part of our decision-making process as we work collaboratively to create the best possible learning environments for all students.
