Information provided by Surrey Schools:
More boundary changes planned to manage enrolment pressure
Surrey Schools is planning to change school catchment boundaries in three areas of Surrey to manage ongoing enrolment growth.
Children already attending the schools involved will not be affected, including their siblings. However, current students could choose to register at their new catchment school if desired. As of September 2016, new students in the affected areas would attend their new catchment area school.
The proposed boundary changes involve the following schools
- Woodward Hill Elementary, Goldstone Park Elementary and Cambridge Elementary
- Clayton Elementary, Katzie Elementary and Hazelgrove Elementary
- Sunnyside Elementary and Morgan Elementary
These areas are under extreme enrolment pressure. For example, there were more than 200 new students added to South Newton-area schools this year.
A school boundary change is being proposed for a portion of the existing Woodward Hill Elementary and Goldstone Park Elementary school catchments for implementation in September 2016. Under this proposal, the northeastern most section of the Woodward Hill Elementary school catchment, as outlined in red on the accompanying map, would be moved to the Goldstone Park Elementary catchment and the southernmost section of the Goldstone Park Elementary catchment would be move to the Cambridge Elementary catchment.
This proposed change would not apply to students (and their siblings) already attending Woodward Hill Elementary or Goldstone Park Elementary, though those students could choose to register at their new catchment school if desired. As of September 2016, new students in the proposed move areas would attend their new catchment schools.
This boundary change is proposed in order to accommodate current and continued enrolment growth at Woodward Hill Elementary. All South Newton area schools are, or are projected to be, under significant enrolment pressures. For next school year (2016/17), enrolment will be managed through boundary moves and portable placement. The Surrey School District has requested, as a high priority in its capital plan submission to the province, an addition to Woodward Hill Elementary.
In the near-term, Surrey Schools is managing enrolment through boundary moves and portable placement. The district has requested, as a high priority in its capital plan submission to the province, funding to build or expand schools in these areas.
