PAC EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FUNDRAISER
IMG_8142Would you be ready if a disaster struck our area? As a school, we have taken the first steps. With the help of our PAC, we have equipped each classroom with an emergency pack, and we practice fire drills 6 times per year and earthquake drills 3 times per year.

At home, we know that most families are not prepared. Now, you can be!!!

Our PAC will be running an Emergency Preparedness fundraiser from February 2-20, offering you kits and supplies to help your family be prepared if and when a disaster occurs.

10% of all proceeds go directly back to our school for the purchase of further emergency supplies such as search and rescue equipment, additional food and water rations, and possible command post supplies such as a generator, portable toilet, and first aid supplies.

You can download the brochure here: Cambridge School Fundraiser Feb 2015

If your child’s teacher has an class email list, you will receive an email with this brochure as an attachment. If not, expect a paper copy to come home early this week.

Thank you in advance for your support!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CAMBRIDGE STAR?
Each day, we continue to encourage Cambridge students to be STARS – students who are SAFE, THOUGHTFUL, ACCOUNTABLE, and RESPECTFUL. We do this through conversations when problems arise, and through modeling. At our January assembly, staff members had fun communicating STAR behaviour through a series of skits. Students are now encouraged to produce THEIR OWNS VIDEOS on the theme of Accountability. All videos will be shown at the February assembly. Please watch and discuss with your child.

Also enjoy our past videos on the themes of SAFETY and THOUGHTFULNESS:

WHY DID YOU DO THE 30-HOUR FAMINE?
Grade 7 students share why they participated in our recent 30-Hour Famine that raised over $6000 for BC Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and KIVA:

Kiva’s Jessica Hansen personally thanks Cambridge Elementary for their donation:

CAMBRIDGE ENROLMENT
Construction continues in and around our school and with Kindergarten registration continues, some concerns have been raised regarding enrolment numbers at our school.

At this time, Cambridge continues to be a “closed catchment” school, meaning that only families living within our official catchment are permitted to register here. Additionally, two construction areas, one at the corner of 60th and 152nd, and a second closer to #10 Highway and 152nd are both OUTSIDE our catchment. Families who purchase homes in these two development areas will be in a neighbouring catchment. You can see the full Surrey Schools catchment map here: Catchment map

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at the school.

BASKETBALL
All three of our basketball teams continue to enjoy successful seasons, not just because of victories, but because we can see that their basketball skills are developing weekly. We are happy to announce that we will be hosting 3 playdays later in February. We look forward to these events and invite you to come and cheer on our student athletes.
