PRINCIPAL/VICE-PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Hello Cambridge Community,
Our first full week was wonderful and we both enjoyed getting to meet so many new students and parents. It felt great to have so many people wave, say hello, or introduce themselves. Your warm welcome has not gone unnoticed and you have certainly made us feel like part of the Cambridge Family. Thank you!
The most important thing we want to draw your attention to this week is the tentative school calendar below. Due to the delayed start this year, we have had to move some dates around. Most importantly:
- PHOTO DAY is this coming week on Thursday, October 9.
- Our Meet the Teacher night, titled Meet and Greet and Buy a Treat will be taking place this coming week, Thursday, October 9 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Our PAC will have yummy food items for sale and you will have a chance to meet your child(ren)’s classroom teacher. Hope you can all make it.
- Interim Student Learning Communications (reports) will be going home on Thursday, November 7.
- Term 1 Student Learning Communications will be going home on Monday, December 15.
- Early dismissals will take place at 1:30 p.m. on both Tuesday, December 16 and Wednesday, December 17.
- The postponed Professional Day in September has been rescheduled for Friday, January 23, 2015.
There are also many other new events coming up. Please mark your calendars.
Finally, if you have time on Monday afternoon, stop by the school between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. and check out the Cardboard Challenge. We feel very strongly that children need ample time and opportunities to problem-solve and create. We hope the Cardboard Challenge is the first of many events that will do this. We are already thinking about a possible Rube-Goldberg event…
IMAGINE!
Regards,
Antonio Vendramin, Principal
Kelli Vogstad, Vice Principal
A special welcome to two new staff members. Ms. Carol McClean joined us this past week and will teach French to our Grade 5-7 students (60%) as well as Grade 3 in Ms. Vogstad’s class (40%). We also welcome Ms. Alda Bishop who joins our team of Education Assistants. We know you will both love working and learning at Cambridge.
A special WELCOME BACK to our student teachers, Ms. Laura Baird, Ms. Katelyn Braun, and Ms. Alicia Faubert, who will be working with Ms. McMillan, Ms. Burwash, and Ms. Weber respectively.
CAMBRIDGE CARDBOARD CHALLENGE
The CARDBOARD CHALLENGE is upon us, and excitement has been building this past week. Students have been thinking, drawing, designing, and collecting resources. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Our event takes places tomorrow, Monday, October 6th. Students will be feverishly working together until lunch. After lunch, projects will be brought down to the gym, and our open house will begin at 1:00 p.m. Parents, you are more than welcome to pop in and have a look.
Students are reminded to bring all of their own supplies, and also that bringing ANY sharp cutting instruments (not including scissors) is not permitted.
Still looking for ideas or inspiration? Please watch the following videos. “How will YOU show your creativity?”
VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Creativity Requires Time
Given that our Cardboard Challenge takes place this week, we thought this would be a fitting video to share. Sometimes we can be TOO busy to let our creative ideas flow. We hope that giving students time will promote creativity.
